Airplanes Watching = Cheap Entertainment

It’s official, B loves airplanes!

We found this parking lot across the street from the airport when my brothers and I were little. We spent many nights sitting on the hood of my parent’s minivan watching different planes land and take off. When I was little, I never understood why my mom and dad loved this activity so much…now, as a mom I do…B was completely captivated and it was totally free!

It took B a few minutes to figure out where the airplanes were coming from as they landed in one direction and took off in another. After about ten minutes, B started to understand and it was at that point that he started to point, bounce up and down, wave his hands and…I hesitate to give him credit for being able to say “airplane” but he did utter “auh puuh” several times as he watched the huge air machines rush past.

I hope that we are able to continue this fun (and inexpensive) tradition.

I am absolutely terrified of flying and one of my prayers is that our kids wouldn’t pick up on my fear and become fearful themselves. I am so glad that B has developed an early fascination for flying machines, maybe he can help his silly lacking in faith momma become more brave.

And a little side note, I promise my shorts aren’t as neon as they look, I think they were just trying to match the sunset.

Be blessed.

Paddle Boating

B got to experience his first paddle boat ride on a little “lake” (really a glorified pond) not too far from where I grew up.

Our little boat’s crew before the ride.

This is the warning we were met with as we began our excursion…we laughed at the “Fast paddling can cause rapid tiring of legs” part.

IMG_3613

B started out on his Grandpa’s lap…

IMG_3616

Then he moved onto a more central spot to try steering the boat…

IMG_3618 IMG_3621

I saw these two spots from the little boat and thought they would both be perfect places to sit with a good book, maybe that will happen after B is grown and taking his own kids out for a paddle boat ride?!

B was all over the place as he rode, he crawled from back seat to front seat and from lap to lap, all while keeping a close watch on his afternoon snack.

2010 July 032

I’m not sure that B enjoyed the ride as much as we enjoyed watching him. It continues to be so fun to experience life through his little eyes.

Be blessed.

Splashes & Sprinklers

B took his little boat for a ride after he woke up from his nap…the ride quickly turned into an impromptu splash time in the sprinkler, which is the reason behind his lack of appropriate swim attire.

He invited his four legged friends to come play…

Ella and Gatsby loved chasing B around the puddles, they tried to lick the water off of his legs.

B got pretty confident and walked through the sprinkler’s stream of water.

After drying off, B tried to use the sprinkler all by himself all while showing off his super cool towel wrap.

I got him to slow down enough for some quick cuddle time and then he was off to do a little more playing in his towel…

This seems to be his modeling pose.

Thank goodness for summer, sun and water!

Eating Outside

One thing that I love to do in the summer is eat outside, yes it can get a little warm, your food can get tossed around by the wind and sometimes you have little visitors with wings that come to say “hello” in the midst of your meal, but I still love it.

These photos were taken while eating outside at one of my favorite summer spots.

B has learned how to use his molars and chowed down on some waffle fries that this particular restaurant is famous for.

It was hysterical, he would put the fry in his mouth and then smiled almost as if to show off his new ability of taking bigger bites…no, I don’t want to B to learn poor habits especially while eating, but he did make all of us laugh!

I am trying to take advantage of every opportunity that I can get to be in front of the camera, so we took this photo after dinner. B obliged for a second or two…

And then surprised me (as you can see in the photo) as he tried to wiggle away to walk off and explore, this momma almost fell backwards on account of her 16 month olds sheer brute strength! (I don’t know whose face is funnier?)

2010 July 004

After dinner we met up with some of B’s great grandparents (my Dad’s parents) for ice cream at one of my very favorite ice cream shops.  By this point in the evening B was done with humoring me by taking photos, he seemed to be more interested with picking up the myriad of spoons, ice cream cups and napkins that were sitting on the table. And by the looks of the photo, everyone else seemed to be more interested in what B was doing too! That’s okay though, I’ll take whatever photos I can get…and really it captures our life as we continue to be so fascinated by this precious little boy that the Lord has blessed us with.

Happy Wednesday!

Evening Pool Date

We were recently able to enjoy some pool time after the intense summer sun began to set…which meant no sun hat, less sun screen and B’s Grandpa got to join in the fun!

B showed his Grandpa the ropes…

2010 July 008

He climbed…

And steered.

B discovered that he could fill this little cup up with water and pour it over his head…he did this over and over all while laughing!

2010 July 020

Later he realized that he could pour the water onto other people and splash them as well…this ended up in more laughing!

2010 July 026

B’s Grandpa showed off his special water squirting trick…a trick that has been perfected over the past 28 or so years.

B’s Gram taught him how to pour the water into his water wheel…though he seemed to be more interested in walking around with his little cup.

2010 July 046

B seemed to enjoy the company of his Gram and Grandpa in the water…and I think that they enjoyed his company just as much, if not more!

I just love this little foot print…which by the way is already a size six and a half!!!

B and his Gram and Grandpa.

2010 July 0552010 July 066

B showed his Grandpa how he can be brave and go in the big pool! They played motor boat, motor boat together (a game we used to play when I was little).

 2010 July 058

B even tried “swimming” between his Grandpa and I, really we were just passing him between the two of us but he seemed to enjoy going back and forth.

2010 July 070

Playing at the pool seemed to suck the energy right out of our little guy! I tried letting him cuddle with Ella Dog as he fell asleep, my plan was to take Ella out of his crib as soon as I cycled some laundry but discovered his little arm wrapped so tightly around Ella that the two cuddled together all night long (we won’t make it a habit, but it really was pretty cute).

Thanks Gram and Grandpa for taking us to the pool!

Be blessed.
