Last week, I enjoyed the sweet and surreal honor of joining B and his classmates for their first field trip. The trip was sweet because it provided an avenue to participate in B’s little world outside of our neck of the wood. The trip was surreal because I have been used to being the teacher along on the trip…not the parent!
Upon arriving to school, I learned that I would be holding B’s hand along with one of his classmates.
My two hand holders were very business like as we boarded the BUS…yes, we got to ride a real yellow school bus…and found their seat. Our seat was over the wheel well of the bus, both boys seemed to think it was pretty neat to have a spot that their toes could reach.
Once at the fire station, we learned about fire safety and got a glimpse of where the fire fighters eat, sleep and work while at the station.
The best part of our tour was seeing the garage where the fire trucks ‘sleep’ as B referred to the garage. This is the latest and greatest truck which B and his classmates got to explore…
After looking at the trucks, we got to see a real firefighter in their gear…some of the kids could hardly wait long enough to task the firefighters all about the masks, coats, gloves, etc. that they were wearing while B, the little studier, simply sat back and took it all in.
The trip lasted all of an hour…but was quite a treat and something we both are still talking about.
I can’t help but wonder where out next trip/outing might be?
Be blessed.
