On the eve of B’s big day…
We took one last family photo with our eleven month old baby!
& C captured B eating some last minute, eleven month, bedtime Cheerios on our “refrigerator”…
On B’s big day, C went into his room to get him as soon as his sweet babbling started, he brought him into our room and we all enjoyed some “cuddle” time as C and I sang the “Happy Birthday”song. B’s eyes were quite captivated by our singing…not because we are SUCH good singers, but I think we caught him a little off guard!
Later, we headed to the bakery for some birthday breakfast. We all were surprised to walk in the bakery door, upon arriving three of the woman at the front counter starting singing “Happy Birthday to You…Happy Birthday to You….”! It was as if they had been waiting for us to arrive…it was so sweet!
B enjoyed his song, gave a “thank you” smile and we ordered our breakfast. One of the women was kind enough to light a candle for us, we put the candle in B’s doughnut and sang to him again…by this point he had heard the song three times since waking up!
B was totally enamored by the candle!
And quite impressed with the doughnut!
After breakfast, we headed to the doctor for B’s one year check up. We continue to be so blessed and thankful for B’s health and growth. C helped B be brave while he got his shots and then headed on to work. The vaccinations made B pretty sleepy which made for a great morning nap when he and I got home from the doctor.
Per T’s suggesting, B’s friend, B enjoyed the remainder of his birthday day in a diaper!
Enjoying lunch…
We had wanted to go to the zoo, but the cool temperatures and rain sort of changed our plans…I wanted to do something out of the ordinary so after lunch B got to “paint” in the bathtub. I would typically have done this with pudding, but with our refrigerator being out of pocket, didn’t have milk, so I compromised and let B paint with prune and apple baby food…he didn’t seem to mind…
In fact, HE LOVED IT!
After losing interest in painting, I bathed him and then put him back in a diaper so he could do some more playing…
B enjoyed playing without the hindrance of clothes. He crawled from one room to another finding different toys to play with and bring to me. I had made it a personal goal to not get distracted by laundry and other chores for the day so as to have some good and uninterrupted play time with B….
I don’t know who enjoyed it more…B or myself?
Later, after B’s afternoon nap, I got him dressed and we waited for C to get home so we could go celebrate B’s day together as our little family of three.
B enjoyed some time outside as we waited for C.
At dinner, while we waited for our food, B “opened” his birthday cards that he received in the mail…they were quite a hit and a great distraction as we sat and waited.
We wanted our extended family and friends to be able to experience B eating his first bites of birthday cake…so those photos are coming…but until then, C thought it would be rather appropriate for B to enjoy some ice cream from the ice cream shop down the street as a birthday sussy to cap off the big day…
We put a candle in the ice cream and sang to him for a fourth time…he again, was enamored by the candle!
He was a little hesitant about trying the ice cream at first…but, later realized that he LOVED IT! He is truly a kid after C’s and my own heart!
B got so excited about the ice cream that he got some in his hair, so after an impromptu bath…he and C enjoyed some good cuddle time before B headed to dream land as a big grown up ONE YEAR OLD!
I have really had a hard time accepting the milestone of B’s first birthday. I feel like this year has truly flown by, and find myself fearful that each coming year will feel even faster. I have spent the week trying to accept the reality March 16, 2010 as C and I celebrate B’s precious life…this is a glimpse of what my heart has been thinking about as I have reminisced over this past incredible year….
B and I enjoy reading the book I love You Through and Through by, Bernadetter Rossetti-Shustak.
The book reads…
“I love you through and through.
I love your top side. I love your bottom side.
I love your inside and outside.
I love your happy side, your sad side, your silly side, your mad side.
I love your fingers and toes. Your ears and nose.
I love your hair and eyes, your giggles and cries.
I love you running and talking.
I love you through and through…yesterday, today and tomorrow, too!”
I enjoy this book because it so captures the love that my heart feels toward B in such a simple way. I do love his happy side, and yes even his sad side, I love his giggles and even his cries. This to me is such a simple picture of our Heavenly Father’s love for each of his children. I am so thankful for God’s patience and grace with me…because there are times when I am happy & sad too. I truly believe that my relationship with B has helped me grow in my relationship with God, my Heavenly Father. The love that I feel for B is miniscule in comparison to how much God loves us, the love and dreams that I have for B…God has even greater for all of his children….that is pretty incredible to think about!
I am so grateful for this HUGE milestone in our family’s life…God is teaching me so much through B’s little life, I am both elated and humbled!
Happy Birthday Sweet Boy! It has been a FANTASTIC YEAR!
