Little Nugget of Truth

In BSF we are studying the book of James.  This past week we dove into the first part of the book and I found myself challenged by something our teaching leader’s analogy in regard to these verses…

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it- not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it-they will be blessed in what they do.” James 1:22-2

Her analogy:

“There is a world of difference between reading a menu and eating/experiencing a meal”

Isn’t this so true!  If we simply read and look at Scripture we often don’t truly get to experience it and are much more apt to read and forget what it says leaving our hearts less than permeated by important truth.  But when we consider it, study it and are ‘systematic’ about our time reading we remember what we read and get to experience an entirely different level of this miraculous God-breathed Book.

I have a long ways to go…as I often can’t remember specifics of what I have read (because my heart is distracted) let alone struggle to implement what I’ve read into my heart.  This analogy between simply reading and eating/experiencing hit me like a ton of bricks…I don’t want to miss out of the goodness, sweetness and savory aspect of God’s Word made graciously available to my heart.

Happy Friday.

Be blessed.
