This week, we ventured out of our neck of the wood on another Friday apple orchard adventure…this time Gram joined us!
We once again donned our purple, though this week proved to be a little chillier so the purple got covered over with fleece and headed out to a different orchard.
Before starting our exploration, we headed inside the orchard’s barn to enjoy some warm apple cider and snack…a chocolate chip cookie almost ONE FOOT in diameter!!!
After our tummies were filled and the morning rain subsided we stepped outside to explore.
First the train jungle gym…
Then the hay mountain!
Then we ventured over to say hello to some goats…
Gram and B fed the goats…they were pretty silly as they ate.
Then we took a hayride to get a tour of the orchard…
The ride was bumpy and fun…the tractor driver described the different tree and apple varieties. He also explained that a late spring frost adversely affected this particular orchard’s crop…hence the lack of trees available for self-picking…thus another adventure without apple picking!
Since we couldn’t pick apples, we ventured out into the raspberry patch to pick a couple pints of berries...a first for the nuggets and myself!
The nuggets ate this up…Little A quite literally, as we noticed quite a bit of red juice on her finger tips and face!
I wasn’t able to capture the berry that A is holding up to show me in this photo…it was really red, really juicy and really smooched!
B was content to hold the pints while he watched Gram pick…
He followed her like a shadow…so engaged and interested in each berry she picked (he even tried one!)
As we made our way back to the barn, we walked through a pumpkin patch…
Little A had a hard time navigating her way through all the crisscrossed maze-like pumpkin vines…but was curious and wanted to keep up as always.
Upon returning to the barn, we enjoyed a tasty WARM lunch. Gram treated us to some crowd favorite ‘Honeycrisp’ apples, caramel dip and an apple crisp to take home to share with C.
We could have frozen this adventure in time…it was so fun to watch these nuggets explore the big world around them as they simply took it all in with smiles on their faces.
Thank you Gram for sharing such a special day with us!
Be blessed.
