S’mores

I am not typically a ‘competitive’ person…C can attest to the few times he’s tried to play board games with me, I lose interest faster than an a typical toddler and would rather let my opponents win to get a game completed than actually play ‘whole heartedly’.

I have learned of one little loop hole in my lack of competitiveness…and that is with MOPS treats.

Let me explain, each meeting a group of women bring treats to share with our entire MOPS group. The treats are always delicious and leave me wondering how these moms of preschoolers are able to get their act together to prepare such cleaver, delicious and unique treats.

The past two chances that I have had to bring treats, I’ve brought muffins…made from store bought mixes and nothing to write home about…so much that BOTH times hardly ANY of the muffins that I have brought have been touched. I’ll admit,  seeing something you’ve made not be touched can affect your pride…well not seriously, but to be honest…sort of.

So, when I learned that I had yet another chance to provide a snack and ‘prove’ myself one last time for the year, the competitive side of me decided to take another route…out with the muffins and in with some s’more treats. (thanks to a pinterest).

I’ll admit, the aesthetic appeal leaves one less than impressed…but maybe, just maybe they’ll be eaten and enjoyed!

Thank You…Pinterest!

I was recently invited to a Pinterest Night…i.e. craft night. To my heart’s delight the night included some of my favorite things…dessert, company of other mom’s in my life stage and peace and quiet. To each of our surprise, we crafted/talked until close to midnight…seeing that time is a rarity in my life, but totally worth every minute of sleep lost.

The plan was to bring various projects that had caught our eye on none other than pinterest. We simply sat around a kitchen table, enjoying tasty pinterest recipes that had been made and chatted as if we were old ladies collaboratively working on a quilt or in a knitting club.

One of the recipes was delicious chocolate chip cookies…I will be honest, they were delicious. I tried my hand at the recipe and it was as easy as the blog describes them. This will undoubtedly be my new ‘go-to’ recipe when it comes to making an easy dessert (I think the secret is in the corn starch).

I worked on this project…thinking it would be a fun way to remember where our little family has traveled together…(it is still in the works, but I hope to have photos of the finished product soon). My plan is to hang it on the wall and sew/glue buttons onto the places that we visit.

Some of the women worked on this project.

I was so impressed that later I made one for a special someone’s birthday (wink wink).  I can’t post a photo because I don’t want to totally ruin the surprise…but it actually turned out, which I am quite excited about.

Another project created was this t-shirt scarf/necklace

Which again, I later made…only this time I’ll be honest, I made it for myself (I totally copied my friend down to the color of the t-shirt and the multi-colored ‘pom pom’)…I am hoping that she thinks that imitation is the best form of flattery Smile.

It has been awhile since I’ve rolled up my sleeves and tried my hand at creativity. It really is therapeutic and fun to see fruit from simple projects.

Happy crafting.

Be blessed.

Family Breakfasts

Just before Thanksgiving, we instituted Thursday morning family breakfasts. We thought it would provide a nice little ‘pick-me-up’ at the end of each week.  We felt like now (when kiddos are little) is as good a time as ever to start scheduling sweet untouchable family time as life will undoubtedly get more chaotic and busy as our little family grows up.

Pinterest has provided some fun and out of the ordinary breakfast ideas/recipes…some have been ‘hits’ and others ‘misses’…I thought I would share some of the ‘hits’ as maybe your family might be able to enjoy some of the tasty treats too.

This week we tried this…

As you can see, mine didn’t look as pretty (I think it might be because I used turkey bacon…and because I’m not Martha Stewart)…

But B and C graciously tried the breakfast treat…

C liked it…B, well not so much. I think next time I will scramble the eggs before pouring them in…B wasn’t quite sure he likes the yellow yoke part of the egg.

Be blessed.

How Could We Resist…

Being good new neighbors AND enjoying some of this tasty goodness!

Our freezer is stocked…at least through the week!

Here’s to frozen thin mints for dessert (and most likely afternoon snacks).

Be blessed.
