One Year Ago Today

It is hard to believe that B began to make his grand entrance into the world a year ago from this morning.

It was a year ago today that I told C  I didn’t think I could sit through an entire church service…

It was a year ago today that C and I put our walking shoes one and walked around and around and around the neighborhood….counting minutes between contractions…looking at each other in disbelief….

It was a year ago today that my mom and I went to get pedicures  in effort to keep me distracted and pass the time…

It was a year ago today that we walked around the neighborhood…

It was a year ago today that I packed my hospital bag, because B had decided to make his grand appearance three weeks early…

It was a year ago today that we walked around the neighborhood….

It was a year ago today that we decided to head to the hospital…

It was a year ago today that C  wheeled me into the hospital as a simple family of two…

It was a year ago today that I lay in a hospital bed, filled with both anticipation and fear…

It was a year ago today that our lives began to change forever…

Our Impromptu Kitchen Remodel

Our new refrigerator…

Our new pantry…

A happy little family enjoying the remodel!

A couple days ago, we noticed that the food that we had replaced in the freezer wasn’t frozen.  The nice repairman came back out to investigate yesterday afternoon during the incredibly convenient four hour time frame of 1:00-5:00pm (sorry for the sarcasm).  The nice repair man discovered another very sad compressor. One might ask, “Didn’t you all just get your refrigerator compressor replaced a week ago after you discovered your very sick refrigerator?”  Our response would be “Yes!”  The new compressor was not installed correctly, which means another compressor had to be ordered which will take at least two business days.  When the second compressor finally arrives, we will invite the nice repairman back out to our house (in the same convenient time frame) to hopefully reinstall another compressor again. At that point, we are hoping that our confidence will be restored in our kitchen’s icebox.

In effort to waste as little food as possible, C made homemade home fries and eggs (before the eggs got too warm) for dinner last night.  To commemorate the randomness of the menu and our effort to keep our cool (no pun intended) I sat on our new refrigerator , C sat on the floor and B joined us in his high chair.  C was sure to remind me to put the ketchup and mustard back in the refrigerator after I was done using it as a chair!

Despite the sarcasm and inconvenience, we continue to be so grateful for our refrigerator…it is a luxury that we too often take advantage of!

B’s Breakfast

It is hard to believe that our precious little B will turn one this week!

In effort to kick off the big week of celebration, C & I thought it would be appropriate for B to try a doughnut for the first time with us at the bakery this morning.  We changed our typical order to include one more doughnut (C was thrilled, knowing that he would get to eat whatever B didn’t finish).…

IMG_1804

We got B all situated at our usual table… B watched C break the doughnut into little pieces….

IMG_1805

Wait for it…wait for it…(B was less than impressed initially…in fact he was quite hesitant)

IMG_1806

Not quite sure….

IMG_1809

Ready set…

IMG_1812

Go!

IMG_1810

Chew…

IMG_1808

He liked it!

IMG_1807

He told us all about it…”ba ba ba da ma ba….”

IMG_1811

And then was polite enough to wipe his face when he was all done…(not quite, but a mom can hope!)

B won’t have the “luxury” of eating doughnuts every morning for breakfast, but everything is okay in moderation…right?!?

C and I have talked about the day when B will be able to enjoy the bakery’s doughnuts just like we do…it is so hard to believe that the day has finally arrived!  Before we know it, B will be walking into the bakery on his own, and ordering his favorite kind of breakfast treat with his own sweet voice. Wow! Time is really flying by!

Preacher Man

Real quick…

When I picked B up from the nursery after Bible study, the kind nursery teacher had a funny story to report.  I wish I could have been a fly on the wall to have experienced this first hand.

Supposedly,  during the “Bible Lesson” time, one of the teachers was sharing a Bible story with the babies, it sounded as if they were reading a book with illustrations. B took it upon himself to crawl around the group in effort to hold the book…he babbled and babbled and babbled as he crawled. I can just imagine him “reading” the words from the book like this…

“Na nana ba ba mamama da da da da na na  nana ba ba mamama da da da da na na na nana ba ba mamama da da da da na na nana ba ba mamama da da da da na na  nana ba ba mamama da da da da na na na nana ba ba mamama da da da da na na nana ba ba mamama da da da da na na  nana ba ba mamama da da da da na na na nana ba ba mamama da da da da na na nana ba ba mamama da da da da na na  nana ba ba mamama da da da da na na na nana ba!”

(all while smiling of course!)

The teachers in his class have now dubbed him with the nickname “The Preacher”.

Heavenly Father,

It is so awesome to know that You already know B’s future…You already know what his talents will be. Please give him a heart that will be willing and wanting to be used by You.

Amen

Mountain Climber

B helped me change linens this afternoon.

First, he helped me transfer the linens from the washer to the dryer….

Second, he helped me pull the dry linens out of the dryer…

Third, he followed me back to our bedroom….crawling (thump, thump, thump, thump)…

Fourth, he found a mountain of pillows to climb!

He babbled and babbled and babbled as he climbed.  He climbed over one side of the pile and then back over the other side…I actually think I overheard him babble to Ella that he thinks he is ready for a harness, rope and carabineers….belay on!

Echo Machine

IMG_1783

B and I were a little spontaneous this afternoon. We visited the “Vortex” sculpture outside of the Fort Worth Modern Art Museum.

B is by no means talking, but he loves to babble and I thought he might have fun listening to echoes created by his little “B” chatter inside of the Vortex.

IMG_1776 IMG_1779 IMG_1781

He loved it! I thought he might “walk” (cruise) around the perimeter of the sculpture by holding onto the walls, he proved otherwise and seemed to be more interested in crawling around the sidewalk (thank goodness for travel wipes to clean dirty hands)…his chatter and babbles were hysterical as he crawled…his little eyes lit up when he heard the echoes…almost as if he was thinking “Am I making all those noises? That is so cool!”

IMG_1784

As we headed home, for B’s afternoon nap, I noticed that the trees are blooming…it is almost as if this process  happened overnight!  We got rain (lots of it) and enjoyed a sunny day yesterday and now the trees have gone from winter-looking to spring-looking!

Thank You Lord for spontaneous moments that allow us to enjoy simple things. Thank You for B’s babbles and giggles.  Thank You for the spring…each is evidence of Your handiwork! Thank You for naptime too!

Twins?

B called C at work this morning and asked what he was wearing so the he could match his dad…

Not really, but our little guy is really growing up. It is official, one week from today he will be one! And as it is pretty apparent in this photo, B is becoming less of a baby and more of a toddler…I really do wish I could press pause on his little life (though everyone tells me it only gets better).  Since we don’t have luxury of pressing pause, I am challenging myself to really relish and savor every aspect of parenthood…through the joys, the trials, the laughs, the tears…every part…because B is going to be all grown up before we know it!
