Trust

A friend posted this on her blog and I thought it was pretty convicting and a neat visual reminder of what trusting in God might look like if trust were a tangible thing…

Isaiah 40:31
"Those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength.”
"The Hebrew word for trust in the verse above means "to bind together (by twisting).. To be gathered together, to be joined." If we want to keep a renewed strength to face our daily challenges or to regain a strength that has faded, God's Word tells us to draw so close to the presence of God that we're practically twisted to Him!"

Back in the Saddle Again

The past week in our neck of the wood has been spent trying to get back into the swing of things after spending the month of July up north.

Spending the month up north was a such a gift, not to mention an incredible reprieve from the hot Texas heat. It was so fun to experience my old stomping ground as a mom for an extended period of time and it was neat for my Minnesota family to get to experience B for more than a quick visit. We got to swim at the pool I grew up swimming at, played at the cabin, walked around lakes, visited with family and friends, ate at some of my favorite places…we really crammed a lot into the month.

I can’t begin to articulate how difficult it is to live so far away from family and what feels familiar from my childhood, especially now that I am a mom. I so often wish that I could wiggle my nose (or hop in the car) and magically appear at the end of the dock at the cabin or around the dinner table with family. I often feel like I am stuck in a weird dimension where I have two separate lives that span across the country and rarely intersect and wish that I could be in two places all at one time.  I know that that isn’t possible, but it is a wish that I often feel in my heart.

When I decided to make my trek south on I-35 as a freshman in college I never anticipated extending my stay in what I then thought was cowboy country…I initially thought it would be a nice four year break from the cold my high school’s clicks but always assumed this Minnesotan would go back.

Those plans obviously changed as C began to play a larger and sweeter role in my life. I know that God’s hand was on my decision to come south that freshman year and He has only continued to reiterate His blessing each year that I have been down here through C, our church, our family and friends. I love the life that we have in Texas…I just so often wish I could have both.

When I was up North I missed my life in Texas and now that I am back, I miss my life up north…to sum it all up, I guess I am in the midst of a major lesson in contentment and realizing that I need to enjoy the moment and the life that the Lord has so graciously blessed me with…so, here’s to contentment and sweet memories that were made up north!

Gram and Grandpa…thanks for all the memories and for letting us spend the month with you…we love you so much!

Haircut Time?

C took this photo and I don’t think he could have done a better job at capturing our little guy right now…I love the cheeks, the squatting position, the tongue and most of all the hair!!!

B was probably due for his first hair cut a few months ago…but this momma just can’t bring herself to cut off those precious little locks, especially because they have grown in so evenly…really though, I am just making excuses. To be honest I am afraid that cutting his hair will make him look like a big kid and I am just not ready for that… little boys can only have long curly locks for such a short period of time and I am feeling so sentimental that this period of time in B’s life has almost come to an end.

Despite my sentiments I need to remember that a few strangers have recently complimented B as being a “cute little girl”… which is leading me in a direction towards letting go of the locks and enjoying this new chapter of big kid-hood in B’s life.

Until the locks go, I am going to be sure to enjoy them as much as possible…even if it means our little guy looks a little disheveled or like a girl…maybe I can chalk it up to character development?!?

Happy Monday.

Be blessed.

Livin’ the Dream

Recently, I was able to enjoy dinner with some of my high school friends. It was fun to sit around the table and hear about everyone’s different lives.

When they asked me what I was up to, I replied “I’m just livin’ the dream”, which I admit, I said a little sarcastically. My sarcastic response stemmed from thinking about a typical day at home where I often find myself vacuuming, dusting, doing laundry, chasing B etc.  I think I uttered the sarcasm because as I sat and listened to what was happening in each of their lives I felt like I was a little boring…

But as I drove home from dinner, I found myself rather humbled as I thought about my response. Sarcasm aside, I realized that I really am living a dream…

I have a God who loves me and continues to show grace and mercy to me and our family on a daily basis.

I have a husband who is my very best friend, who loves me despite my quirks, who cheers me on and who works hard so that I can spend time at home with B.

I have a happy and healthy little boy who keeps me on my toes, keeps us laughing and blesses C and I daily.

We have family’s that love us and encourage us.

We have friends who challenge us and spur us on.

We have a roof over our head and a house to be vacuumed, dusted and cleaned.

We have clothes on our backs that need to be laundered.

The list really goes on and on.

So next time, I am asked “S, how are you? What have you been up to lately?” I am going to try to respond more graciously…because I am so grateful to be living my dream.

Great Grandma M & Great Grandpa B

B was recently able to spend some time with another set of great grandparents…he was quite a little ham as he showed them how he likes to play with his legos, boat and Ella Dog.

Ella at Work

Ella was scheduled for a check up at the vet today. C dropped her off and sent this photo to me…apparently they put our sweet pup to work the minute she arrived!

Really!?!?

I am beginning to feel like my car thermometer and the meteorologists are all conspiring together…IMG00048-20100804-1634

And wondering if it is possible to melt into a human puddle.

Happy and HOT Wednesday.
